Remembering Those Who Served
Date: May 24, 2008
Location: Eastern Passage Legion Branch 164 Hall;
Time: 7 PM
Contact: Tom Harmes 465 6512
Overview: As Canadians we are fortunate to share liberty and freedom of expression and speech. This freedom that we sometimes take for granted has been afforded us because others have taken a stand and fought when necessary to help keep our country free from dictatorship and terrorism. Our Canadian service personnel play a very important role in keeping our country safe and one of the best places to live. It is with this thought that we invite the community to share in a dedication ceremony to honor Braun Woodfield. Braun was the proud son of Dan and Beverley Woodfield of Cow Bay. Although Braun was much too young to leave us, he served with a commitment to help others in need and his willingness was his strength. In cooperation with our Legion Branch 164 we are dedicating a permanent plaque and the ceremony will be held on May 24 / 08 at 7 pm. at the legion hall. The plaque will be mounted and unveiled for all to pay respect and be thankful for the courage’s work Braun and our service personnel carry out both home and abroad. We invite the community to share in this dedication to show our appreciation and respect for all our service personnel.

HRM Reminds Dog Owners to Pick Up After Pets
Date: April 20, 2008
Location: HRM;
Time:
Overview: HRM Reminds Dog Owners to Pick Up After Pets (Tuesday, April 15, 2008) - Halifax Regional Municipality is reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets. Beginning Friday April 18, HRM staff will be marking the off leash areas and sports fields where dog waste has not been picked up to warn passers-by and encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets. For three weeks, HRM staff will place orange miniature flags beside the dog waste. Point Pleasant Park will be the first park to undergo the spring cleaning reminder, which is a part of the Off Leash Parks Strategy. On June 26, 2007 Halifax Regional Council adopted the HRM Off Leash Parks Strategy. Since then HRM has been implementing the Strategy at several pilot off leash program sites in HRM parks and sports fields. The off leash areas serve as test sites for off leash activities and are being closely monitored for cleanliness. The success of the program depends on responsible pet owners picking up after their pets. HRM will continue to monitor the Off Leash pilot areas, and will post results of the strategy online at www.halifax.ca/RealPropertyPlanning/OLPS/index.html
